Looking to boost your confidence outdoors? Whether you’re planning hill walks, expedition routes, or simply want to feel more self-sufficient in nature, our one-day Navigation Skills Training experience is the perfect way to build your map and compass know-how.
Delivered by experienced outdoor leaders, this hands-on course is designed for up to eight people – ideal for friends, families, Duke of Edinburgh groups, Scout leaders, or anyone wanting to learn together.
What You’ll Learn
Map Reading Mastery
- Understand Ordnance Survey maps and symbol
- Identify terrain features and interpret contours
- Use grid references and orientate your map with ease
Navigation Techniques
- Use a compass confidently to set bearings and follow routes
- Plot and follow a basic navigation route
- Learn pacing and timing methods to measure distance accurately
Natural Navigation & Feature Awareness
- Discover how to use the landscape, the sun, and shadows to stay on track
- Recognise key natural features to aid real-time route finding
- Build confidence in decision-making using what’s around you
